Is MPEG related firmware separated sold with Development Kit?
No, MPEG related firmware is part of our Development Kit. We provide MPEG related firmware to the customers who buy our Development Kit.

Is there royalty fee to use MagicEyes’ provided MPEG firmware?
Yes. You don’t have to pay royalty to use MPEG encoder/decoder. You already buy one of our development kits and your right to use our MPEG firmware is in it.

Does this mean that I do not have to pay license fee to patent holders of MPEG once I pay for one of MagicEyes’ development kit?
No, you may have to pay royalty to various entities, including MPEG LA, to use MPEG technology. Your system may require license from various entities depending on the functionality of your system.

How many Development software copies can I make if I buy MagicEyes Development Kit?
We sell the Development kit to customer by customer. Therefore, you can make as many copies as needed base in your company. Please be sure that you should not send of copy to outside of your company.

Do you provide audio/speech software? Are they also included in Development Kit?
No. You have to pay extra for audio/speech software. Currently available software is MP3 decoder, MP3 encoder and G.723.1 codec. We provide it with initial payment so you don’t need to pay royalty for code itself. However, you have to pay royalty to those patents holders. Please contact local sales representatives for initial payment.

What kinds of audio codec license fee I have to pay?
It depends on your system specification and used OS. For example, if you use MP3 decoder, WMA decoder and OGG decoder in Linux, you have to pay license fee of MP3 decoder and WMA decoder. If you use same audio codec in WinCE, you may not have to pay any audio codec license fee because WinCE license already includes license fee of MP3 decoder and WMA decoder. However, if you want to use 3’rd party MP3 decoder, you still have to pay MP3 decoder even you use WinCE.

What kinds of speech codecs are available and what are the royalty options?
You can use what ever speech codecs as long as they can be ported in ARM920T. MagicEyes prepared G.723.1 codec. Please contact sales representatives in you are for the price. You have to pay G.723.1 royalty to DGP Group.

I would like to playback DivX files. What kind of royalty or license fee should I pay?
You don’t have to pay extra DivX decoder code to MagicEyes because it is already included in Development kit price. However you have to pay MPEG4 decoder royalty to MPEGLA and also you have to contact DivX Networks for licensing and royalty.
